Taekondo in Huia

Every Mondays and Fridays, Huia is doing Taekwondo. We are learning how to defend ourselves if we ever get into a fight. We are learning different kicks, like the snap kick, flying kick and the downward kick.  The teachers are also teaching us the language of taekwondo.

Arohatia Te Reo Week

Last week was Arahatia Te Reo week at Tawa Intermediate. As part of this we had a competition across the school to prepare a resource that promotes Te Reo. Check out the amazing effort by room 4 here. Tyler, Charm, and Teia did an outstanding job as the speakers and they did all the translation themselves! All I did as the teacher was put the video together. Alexi, Jaz, Aman, Emmy, and Summer did all the filming. Well done to you all, you're awesome!

National Hockey Stadium

Our 8 aside hockey players and our volleyball players got to school and we got ready to get on the bus. First we then dropped off the volleyball players at the sports stadium, and then we went to the National Hockey Stadium.

As we got there we hopped on the turf and practiced, then we hopped off and the girls was about to start. So the girls got ready to play Raroa, our girls did really well. We lost 2-0 to them and then the girls had a one hour break.  When the girls had their break the boys played two games in a row. They played really well and one of their mid fielders did really well with his giant hits. But they lost and the score was 3-5 to Raroa.

Our boys had only 5 minutes break and then they started their game playing  Ebis. Their full back went great but they lost 3-0. Then they had a hot bowl of chips which Mr Reid bought for the boys.

The girls were playing two in a row and they played EBIS which our center forward won for us. We won 2-0 but at half time Mr Reid said if we won he would buy us two hot bowls of chips! Afterwards we played SWIS so we got it. Then we played SWIS during which we came back on the second half, but our full back got tired and we lost  6-2 to them.

It was Tawa’s last game, the boys were playing SWIS, they lost 11-3 so not very good for them.

Out of the girls tawa came 3rd out of 4, the boys came 4th out of 4

Raroa Exchange

In term one and two our raroa exchange sports teams got made up. There are 14 sports teams, there  are a boys and girls team for each sport, girls and boys soccor, boys and girls hockey, girls and boys rugby, girls and boys vollyball, girls and boys basketball and our four best  netball teams 2 for year 7s and 2 for year 8s.

We took a bus to Raroa school in Johnsonville but we only had one bus there so one group had to wait in the freezing cold. Finaly it arrived, but as we were hopping on we had a problem, we didn't fit so well so we had to sqeeze 3 people on a seat, that was not fun.

We got to Raroa school and we went to the hall and there raroa school sports person welcomed as to there school then the teams went to get ready.

All the teams play and at the end we only won one game, the rugby 7s girls won. At the end of the day we got called to the hall and the talked about what an wonderful time they had.  They gave the MVP awards out (most valueble players). Then they handed the trophy for the school who won the most games, Raroa won with a score of 13-1 to them.

Then one the way back we had 3 buses so heaps of room =)

When I went too Raroa I played for the girls basketball team.  It was a really hard game, both teams were trying their best. We only lost by 3 points! Tawa Intermediate only won 1 game out of 13 which was the girls rugby.  Me and Michaela both bought sausages for only $1 and slushies which was cool.

On the day of fun run you could tell everyone was excited but i think not for the run....but for the costumes and stuff but when people were running it was muddy and big puddles... people had mudd all over them people were slipping and some people had tried their best aswell in the end our whole school raised over $30,000 dollars  and the class that won was rm 14 of course.

Citizenship Inquiry

Here is the video we made after our Interview of Mr Goosen. We have been looking at African countries and comparing their lives and citizenship with ours. Mr Goosen is a teacher at our school and originally from South Africa. The class were absolutely engaged by this and here is some of what they learnt.

Welcome to 2012 in Room 4

This is where the students in room 4 get to show off and talk about what is going on in class. Check in each week to see what we are up to through the voices of the students themselves. Mr Reid
